Integrating human resource management (hrm) into library and information science curriculum of bangladesh

Abstract

The present study describes that human resources management can be integrated into the exiting LIS curriculum of Bangladesh actually in any LIS curriculum around the world. The core purpose of the study is to present the existing HRM course of LIS programs at the master level in Bangladesh with a view to integrate HRM in the existing curriculum. The study reviews the literature related to LIS education and curriculum in Bangladesh. A comprehensive study was conducted on the existing HRM curriculum concentration of LIS departments in Bangladesh. An attempt has made to find the HRM course content and concentration of some leading LIS schools/departments in USA, UK and Canada. The study found that personnel management is discussed at the Bachelor and Master level of LIS program in Bangladesh but very briefly. Analysing the Human Resources Management course of DILL it is found that during the curriculum development concentration and importance should be given to integrate course content like organizational context of HRM, strategic HRM, change management, recruitment, job analysis, satisfaction, time management, performance appraisal and HRM in the context of digital libraries.
