Citation analysis of m.ed. dissertations submitted in the department of education and training, Manuu, Hyderabad: A study

Abstract

This study applies citation analysis method to examine the use of information resources by students of the M. Ed. at the Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad in preparing their dissertation. References from a sample of 86 M. Ed. dissertations from the period 2008–2010 were examined for: year of publication, author, bibliographic format, language, subject category, citation style and place of publication. The study shows that books and journals are still the most used sources for information and there is a steady increase in the use of electronic media by M. Ed. students. Authorship pattern indicates preference for single authored works. This study serves as a baseline indicator of resources used by M. Ed. students. It can be utilized by librarians to focus on collection development to support information and research needs of the subject Education.
