A case study of information needs and information seeking behaviour of the postgraduate students and research scholars in Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh

Abstract

The paper investigates the information seeking behaviour among the postgraduate students and science research scholars of Rani Durgavati University, Jabalpur, MP. The survey method was used for the undertaken study. The data was collected using a structured questionnaire, personally distributed to 90 science postgraduate students and 50 research scholars of the university and 78 received from postgraduate students and 45 from research scholars. The survey was conducted on the postgraduate students and research scholars to know the answer of questions such as purpose of information, collections of library, services of the library, need of information, use of electronic resources, use of search engines and search strategies, etc. It was also found that the majority of research scholars with 91.11 percent and 84.62 percent postgraduate students indicate that the library is the main source for providing their information needs whereas the remaining 8.89 percent of the research scholars and 15.38 percent postgraduate students used other sources for their information needs.
