Abstract

Social scientists constitute a major group of users in the information system. They have their own information need, undergo process of seeking information, use different sources, services and channels of information. They depend on the existing information system to fulfill their needs which are very complex. Information channels in the system contribute significantly to meet their needs. In this perspective, the present study attempts to investigate on how the social scientists of different categories of Manipur use the available and exiting information channels. The purposes of seeking information, use of channels, institutional facilities, visit to the library, use of personal collections, etc. have been taken into account in the study.
