Availability and use of Information Technology in degree college libraries in Chandigarh

The use of Information Technology (IT) tools has opened new horizons to increase the efficiency of services that the libraries offer. The college libraries are no exception and are not far behind in developing IT infrastructure and its application for the library operations and services to provide better facilities and services to their user community that primarily consist of students and the faculty members. The paper describes the availability IT infrastructure and its applications in the degree college libraries in Chandigarh. It was found that most of these libraries had developed good IT infrastructure over a period of time, yet the IT applications could not be expanded beyond local networking within the library or the campus. It is concluded that the degree college libraries in Chandigarh should strive hard to make use of existing IT infrastructure and also adopt newer technologies to provide value added information services to their clientele.
