Use and usability of internet among users of public libraries in Chennai city: A study

The study has been undertaken to assess the attitude of Internet users, taking into account the use of Internet by users of public libraries in Chennai. The major objectives were to identify how internet satisfies public libraries objective like informal education, recreation activity & user's information need. For this purpose a well structured questionnaire was distributed among the users of 13 Public libraries in Chennai where these libraries only provided internet facility to the users. Data were collected from 65 users. The paper verified that users were not fully satisfied with the Internet facilities provided by Public libraries in Chennai. The findings of the study also revealed useful facts about the use of Internet by Users in public libraries. On the basis of findings, some suggestions have been made to improve the internet facility in the public libraries.
