Use of information sources and services by students: A comparative study of Pachhunga University College and Government Aizawl College

Abstract

This study investigates the use of library by students of Pachhunga University College and Government Aizawl College. Large amount of information and emerging new technology and services in our today information age necessitate the study on the role of libraries. There has been some deliberation about the necessity to better understand and define the needs and expectation of library users to provide the appropriate kind and level of service to provide satisfaction and service quality. This study purposes and tests a model to explain the use of college libraries. The explanatory factors include service quality factors, resources, and user characteristics. Total two hundred and twenty five (225) students and randomly selected library in-charge from Pachhunga University College and Government Aizawl College were sample for the study. A questionnaire was used to identify the impression of users toward the use and awareness of library services, adequacy of library resources and their views on library services. Further an attempt has been made to highlight the findings of the study and a few suggestions based on the analysis of collected data.
