Application of mobile technology in libraries: a survey of periodical literature published by emerald

Present paper is an attempt to explore the growth and development of periodical literature published by Emerald on ‘mobile technology and its application to libraries’. Bibliographic data of the literature published in Library and Information Science field have been obtained through Emerald database (www.emeraldinsight.com) using keywords like ‘mobile technology’; ‘mobile technology and libraries’; ‘mobile technology and its application in libraries’ etc. and recorded in MS-Excel 2007 sheet for the analysis and interpretation. The study found 77 different categories of items have been published by Emerald so far in the respective field and 2013 and 2014 were the most productive years with 14 (18.18%) articles/research papers each and first article was published by Emerald on the subject in 2002. Furthermore, it was found that Emerald has published more research papers in compare to the other categories of literature. The area of the study was confined to the literature published by Emerald on ‘mobile technology and its applications to libraries’ and research results are limited to this database and subject only. The present study provides total no. of literature with trend published by Emerald on ‘mobile technology and its applications to libraries’, and further also explore the core journals of LIS field publishing literature on the subject.
