Challenges of paradigm shift in academic library system in india

This paper highlights the significance of academic libraries in higher education and learning. It briefly outlines in the status of academic libraries in pre and post independent India. It discusses the efforts made by various agencies towards betterment of academic libraries in India. It describes in brief, the role of University Grants Commission, Information and Library Network Centre and National Knowledge Commission. It also discusses the challenges which are very dominant and posing threat for the existence of academic libraries and suitable strategies requires to be made by the libraries and librarians to meet the expectations and information need of their existing and potential clienteles.
