Characteristics of book Self-Citations in horticulture: A citation study of dissertations 1991–2010

Abstract

10, 845 citations appended to 80 doctoral dissertations in the field of horticulture awarded by Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV) and Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya (UBKV), West Bengal has been carried out to determine the characteristics of self-citations on cited books of supervisors and researchers during 1991–2010. The study attempted to identify the bibliographic form, productive pattern of authors of cited books, co-authorship and credit study, self-citing supervisors and researchers of cited books. The horticulture scientists mainly use journal articles 8437 (77.796%) and books occupied the second place with 1327 12.236%) for collecting the required information. The study reveals that there are decreasing trend towards multiple authorship in cited books. The most prolific author was T K Bose who topped in the list with 66 (78.572%) book citations during the study period.
