ICT infrastructure in Indian cybercafés: A survey

Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to know the ICT infrastructure in the cyberacfes of two Indian cities. The study focuses on the personal characteristics of the cybercafé owner, year of establishment of cybercafé, Non-Internet services provided in cybercafé, and the problems faced by the owners in cybercafé business. The population of the study consisted of cybercafé owners (Managers) in Bangalore and Shivamogga city, Karnataka. The finding of the study shows that there is a decrease in the number of cybercafés in these cities. High cost of Internet connectivity and frequent electricity block-outs (60.60% each) were major problems faced by the owners of cybercafe.
