Abstract

The objective of the study was to find out authorship pattern across the university and within the university. The hypothesis of the study is “There is no significant variation in the contributions of coauthored publications and single authored publications. ”The data used for the present study was obtained by online questionnaire, websites of universities, emails and phone calls. The study covered a period of 36 years spanning between 1978 and 2014 of select 15 universities. A total of 2420 records of various types comprising Articles, conference proceedings, books & book chapters by 67 faculty members of the universities of North India have been compiled. The library and information faculty of all these universities have preferred double authorship pattern. It can be inferred from table 3 that there is significant variation among authorship pattern as pvalue is 0.001 which is less than 0.05 at 5% level of significance. Thus, the null hypothesis (H06): ‘There is no significant variation in contribution of co-authored articles and single authored articles’ is rejected.
