Abstract

This paper examines the implementation of the Information Literacy Programme (ILP) in the Central Library of Galgotias University, Greater Noida (UP) and discusses its various methods of execution and contents, along with the barriers faced and the final evaluation. The ultimate aim of any library service is to ensure that the users are easily able to access the information they require, and Information Literacy (IL) plays an important role in it. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has made its presence felt in libraries and information centres; and IL has been found to be of equal significance, especially at the university level, and above.

The purpose of this study was to assess the IL skills of a set of postgraduate students after the incorporation of ILP in their university library. It was satisfying to note that there was a noticeable boost in the students’ performance; however, there is still scope for improvement.
