Abstract

This paper deals with evaluation of irrigation performance on minor canal basis under Bhadarabad and Ahmadpur distributaries of Hardwar district, Uttaranchal state. In this study, priority was given to identify major crops using synthetically generated images, calculation of crop water requirements using meteorological data and the crop acreage which was obtained from classified image. To evaluate the irrigation performance, actual water requirements and canal water supplies were compared and performance of each minor was found in a GIS environment. Canal discharges were found to be more than the irrigation demands in many months, which shows the need of monitoring the irrigation system.
