Abstract

A grey rule based rainfall-runoff model with accumulated generating operation approach, using linear whitening (LW) and parabolic whitening (PW) algorithms in the model framework, were developed and applied in the Ajay River catchment at Jamtara in northern India, for simulating the catchment response. Six historical storm events were used for model calibration and four events were used for its validation. The performance of the event-based model for both the LW and PW approaches was evaluated by using the Nash-Sutcliffe criterion of model efficiency. The comparative evaluation of these modeling approaches reveal that the LW approach performs better than the PW approach in the study catchment. while both the grey rule based LW and PW frameworks have the competence to synthesize the storm runoff with reasonable accuracy.
