Abstract

This paper describes meaning of micro-hydro schemes, its importance, suitability to Indian scenario and compares it with other popular renewable energy sources of its category. It covers steps to be taken while considering formulation of micro-hydro scheme like some of the designing aspects of penstock, turbine, selection of suitable generator, determination of dimensions of power station, selection of proper drive system, suitable transformer and required switchgear for satisfactory operation of micro-hydro scheme assuming capacity to be 75 kW. Paper also focuses on economic viability of the scheme and enlists some of the important Indian manufacturers of Turbines and Generators, required for micro-hydro scheme.
