Pakistan Renewable Energy Resources: Crisis and Opportunities-a Review

Every country is looking to get self-reliant and inexpensive source of energy as almost all electric and mechanical machine requires energy for its operation. It is important for the development and prosperity of nation to get access to environment friendly form of energy economically therefore the world is looking for efficient energy technologies and renewable energy to replace fossil fuel. Pakistan is one of those countries which have potential to reasonably increase the share of renewable energy in its energy mix. Currently the energy situation in Pakistan is not encouraging. 38% of total population in this country has no access to electricity. 54% of rural population is deprived of electricity. It is leading them to live a sub-standard life. Security threat and debts are few reasons of energy crisis and actions like private investment and micro financing can resolve the issue. This report will discuss the current energy situation, potential of renewable energy and challenges associated with it in Pakistan.
