Abstract

The main objective of SAARC is to build up economic cooperation at an accelerated rate among it member countries as is set out in the charter of the association. Both from the view point of the geographical area and the economic strength, India the biggest partner of SAARC can play an important role as a driving force for regional cooperation in economic areas particularly in the field of intra regional trade of the SAARC region. This paper focuses on the magnitude of trade and the factors obstructing the trade flows between India and the other member countries of SAARC during the “post liberalization, privatization, and globalization (LPG)” period.
