Abstract

Vulnerability indicators are more useful for tracing the vulnerability of various social and ecological environments through time and space. The livelihood vulnerability index (LVIj was evaluated in the present study using 7 major indicators and 34 sub-indicators to assess the vulnerability status among tribal households in the Ananthagiri agency area ofVisakhapatnam district in Andhra Pradesh state. The outcome of the investigation revealed that the tribal households are living in poor socio-economic and livelihood conditions due to high poverty, lack of education, and lack of awareness. The LVI score ranges from 0.50 to 0.83, which explains that the study area is in an extremely vulnerable situation. Poor socio-demographics, livelihood, health, and water security have been identified as the main contributing factors that cause severe vulnerable conditions. The findings may be useful for policymakers to understand the basic causes oflivelihood vulnerability.
