Abstract

This study analyses the skill and employment opportunities of Scheduled Castes (SCs) in Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the potential for employment. SCs often receive lower-grade skill training, which limits their employability. Poverty, lack of education, and caste-based discrimination contribute to reduced livelihoods. It is important to ensure that the social background of trained SCs does not affect their hiring process in the labour market. The program is effective in creating employment in industries and self-employment sectors. Although SCs have received training, employment opportunities are yet to be realised. The program can help SCs interested in opening up small businesses become self-employed, which can help them shift from casual labour activities to self-employed.
