Mountainous economies are vulnerable to natural disasters. These disasters severely impact economic development and human well-being. The Indian Himalayan regions, suffer greatly from such calamities. Development efforts often overlook mountain regions’ unique characteristics, leading to generic strategies that do not consider mountain-specific needs. The paper suggests measures for disaster mitigation, highlighting the importance of integrating economic, social, and environmental dimensions for sustainable mountain economies.
