Abstract

India’s foreign policy has evolved in the last decade from non-alignment to a stance of multi alignment which is focused on strategic partnership. The above policy change is reflected in the shifting of crude oil imports from the Middle East to Russia following the outbreak of the Ukraine War, which enabled India to avail oil at a discounted price from Russia while controlling the crude price in the Middle East through fewer imports. The favourable situation in crude oil prices brought out by the outcome of foreign policy has allowed Indian companies to increase crude oil imports from Russia to cater for the domestic demand alongside increasing petroleum exports.
