Despite India’s rise to prominence in the world economy, a significant part of its development is still, for the most part, unexplored. Undoubtedly, private hospitals are springing up all over the nation’s major cities, but basic government-run healthcare facilities in rural areas are still not being viewed as a critical component of growth. This study intends to investigate the causes of this underdeveloped area of India’s overall development and offer potential remedies. The National Institutes of Health, the World Health Organization, and other secondary public sources provided data on the existing performance status of the healthcare sectors as well as the fundamental requirements for development, which were then analyzed using graphs and figures. Despite India’s rise to prominence in the world economy, a significant part of its development is still, for the most part, unexplored. Undoubtedly, private hospitals are springing up all over the nation’s major cities, but basic government-run healthcare facilities in rural areas are still not being viewed as a critical component of growth. The authors have investigated the fundamental causes of this underdeveloped facet of India’s overall growth and have offered potential remedies. Secondary data gathered from multiple sources, including the World Health Organization and the National Institute of Health, is used to study the current performance status of the healthcare sectors, the fundamental needs of development, and the areas where they lag. This article gives a quick overview of the public health framework in the country and tracks the development of important health programs and initiatives with a focus on basic healthcare. The writers have also proposed a few innovative methods that the government can use to restructure the Indian healthcare sector.
