Abstract

The documentation of indigenous practices is of paramount importance to access their validity and scientific rationality through laboratory experimentation. This study was performed in Chambal region of Agra district of Uttar Pradesh during 2002–03 to document indigenous animal husbandry practices through a semi structured interview schedule from 22 local healers and 82 livestock owners to prepare atlast an inventory of 176 indigenous animal husbandry practices for a number of ailments viz., digestive disorders, reproductive disorders, respiratory problems etc. This paper emphasizes mainly the indigenous animal husbandry practices used in disease control by the local healers and livestock owners.
