Abstract

The activity of ornithine carbamoyltransferase (OCT) was determined in the serum of healthy Rathi cattle belonging to western part of Rajasthan. The animals were grouped into male (40) and female (52). Further each group was divided according to age as 6–8 months (16 male and 20 female); 1–2 years (15 male and 18 female) and 3–5 years (9 male and 14 female). The overall mean value of serum OCT was 8.96±7.1U/l. The overall mean values of male and female animals showed non significant (p>0.05) difference. In each category i.e. male and female, the mean values were compared according to the age. In each category the mean value of animals of 3–5 years age varied significantly (p=0.05) from the respective mean values of 6–8 months and 1–2 years age old animals.
