Economic raising of gir calves by feeding milk replacer

Abstract

Eighteen Gir calves that were weaned at birth were randomly divided into three groups of six in each group: T-1 group of calves received whole milk at·the rate of 10% of body weight, T-2 group received whole milk plus milk replacer replacing 25 % of whole milk requirement and T-3 group were given whole milk plus milk replacer replacing 50 %of whole milk requirement, Average daily gain recorded throughout the experiment were, T-1 418.5, T-2 353.7, T-3 391.6 g/day. The differences were statistically non significant. The milk replacer groups gained body weight at par with control group.
