Characteristics of induced estrus in kankrej heifers

Abstract

Estrus was induced in eighteen true anoestrus Kankrej heifers of delayed puberty divided in to three groups treated with Crestar ear implant with and without Pregnant Mare Serum Gonadotropin (PMSG). They were studied for intensity of estrus and other visible changes. The overall percent of weak, normal and intense induced estrus was 22.22 percent, 50.00 percent and 27.28 percent. The symptoms viz. edema, erythema and wetness of the vulva was observed in all the heifers followed by estrual mucus discharge (83.33 percent) and acceptance of bull (77.78 percent), while bellowing and off feed were not found in any of the treated heifers.
