Comparative milk yield performance of indigenous stock cross bred with exotic breeds such as Jersey and Holstein Friesian has demonstrated improved milk yield. Cattle with genetic grades obtained by cross breeding affect milk production traits increasing efficiency. Milk production in four 5/8 Friesian and 3/8 Sahiwal cross bred cattle were analysed using 173 lactation recordings from the years 2002–2005. The results demonstrate the 5/8 Friesian and 3/8 Sahiwal cross bred cattle out produced the pure breed Sahiwal cattle irrespective of their age at the live stock unit of the Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences.
