Mental Disposition and Social Adjustment of Institutionalised Children in The Cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, Telangana State

That self concept has significant association with age, size of the institution, facilities available, family type and family environment (P<0.05). No significant association with anxiety was obtained in the age (p>0.05). While there was significant association with size of the institution, facilities available, education, family type, size of the family and family environment (p<0.05). There is significant association between size of the institution, facilities available, education and family type with social adjustment (P<0.05). The other independent variables like age and family environment are not significantly associated with social adjustment (P>0.05). In trivariate analysis it is clear that the original bivariate association between family type and anxiety and social adjustment is affected by the third variable family environment (spurious association) where as other associations are not affected by the third variable.

It is clear from the present study that the mental disposition (specifically the variables considered in the present study) and social adjustment of children is affected because of institutionalization.
