Abstract

The main focus of this study was to put forward an understanding of the concept of the foster care model and to study various organisations across the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries that practice foster care. For the purpose of collecting data, over 150 organisations were approached in the year 2015 and 2016 for qualitative analysis. An exhaustive survey questionnaire was constructed and circulated among the organisations the websites of which hinted the practice of foster care or quasi foster care systems. The survey questionnaire was revised in the year 2016 and circulated to the organisations including those that had been approached the previous year. Of the 25 organisations that did respond between the years 2015 and 2016, there were eleven organisations that have been practising foster care and shared their experience by filling the respective questionnaires.
