Child sexual abuse is a pervasive social disorder, posing distressing psychological, social and economic implications to the victims as well as to the society. Children are more likely to be the victims of abuse, and especially sexual abuse, which has long-lasting impacts on the overall wellbeing of the child not only during childhood but also into adulthood. Alternative care settings are a part of society and are a reflection of a society's child protection measures. In order to understand the prevalence of the issue at hand, within the context of alternative care, an attempt is made to compile and analyze the reported sexual abuse incidences that have been published in various research articles, reports and newspapers, and recommendations are put forward for combating sexual abuse in the community and in alternative care.
