The aim of his study was to ascertain the personality characteristics of anorexic patients and compare them with normal control participants. A group of 25 anorexic outdoor patients in the age range of 40-55 years was purposively sampled. Only those patients were sampled who had not gone under long term treatment. The patients belonged to Jaunpur district (U.P, India). A group of 100 healthy normal subjects in the same range was also sampled as the comparison group. The personality characteristics of both the groups were measured with 16PF questionnaire (Factor-B excluded). The two groups were found to differ significantly on eight personality factors (A, G, I, N, O, Q1, Q2, & Q4). This suggests that anorexic patients possess different personality traits as compared to the normal participants. Thus, on the basis of the results association between anorexia and personality seems to exist. Results are thoroughly discussed and implications, limitations and suggestions for future research are also given.
