Abstract

Stress is a very common problem in present society and all the groups of people are affected from it at least to some extent. As regards gender difference in perceived stress, females are said to be more affected from it as compared to their male counterparts. In view of the above, this study attempted to examine the perceived stress among male and female adolescent participants. A group of 150 male adolescents and 125 female adolescents participated in this study. Their age ranged from 14 to 18 years with mean age being 16.5 years and they belonged to some of the schools located in Varanasi and Jaunpur districts of U.P. (India). They were administered the Hindi version of Global Perceived Stress Scale (GPSS: Singh, 2018). The analyses of data revealed that female adolescents scored significantly higher mean than the male adolescents as measured with Global Perceived Stress Scale. The results are thoroughly discussed and implications of findings as well as the limitations and suggestions for future research are also underlined.
