Abstract

Daisy is one of the new upcoming potential crop and is popularly used as filler for flower arrangement, bouquets and also for cut flower purpose. A field and laboratory experiment was conducted in the Department of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture, Kittur Rani Channamma College of Horticulture, Arabhavi during July to October 2010, to determine the effects of foliar spray of different plant growth regulators on growth, quality and yield of daisy cv. Dwarf Pink. The experiment was laid out by adopting randomized completely block design (RCBD), with three replications and 17 treatments, which comprised of plant growth regulators namely GA3, IBA, NAA each at concentrations of 25, 50, 100 and 150 ppm and Cycocel at concentrations of 50, 100, 200 and 400 ppm and control with water spray. Among the different growth regulators sprayed, GA3 at 150 ppm recorded maximum plant height (30.75 cm), chlorophyll content of leaves (1.13 mg/g), spike length (28.88 cm), rachis length (26.53 cm). But, flower sixe was maximum with GA3 100 ppm (3.37 cm). Whereas, maximum plant spread (27.09 cm E-W and 26.42 cm N-S), increased dry matter production (14.42 g/plant), more number of spikes per plant per season (8.10), spike yield per plot and per hectare per season (560.88 and 20.56 lakhs, respectively) was recorded in the plants sprayed with Cycocel at 400 ppm and more vase life (7.13 days) was recorded in the plants sprayed with Cycocel 200 ppm.
