Abstract

The present investigation was carried out at Vegetable Science Section, Division of Horticulture, University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bangalore, Karnataka. The plant growth regulators having different concentrations and fruit retention levels showed differential response for all the growth, yield and seed quality parameters. Among the different interactions, 8 fruits retained plants sprayed with NAA @ 25 ppm recorded more (72.39 cm and 130.74 cm) plant height, number of leaves per plant (16.00 and 23.93) and reduced stem girth (3.02 cms and 3.41 cms) at 60 and 90 days, respectively and it will also took least number of days to maturity (116.40). Among interactions 8 fruits retained plants sprayed with NAA @ 25 ppm recorded highest fruit length (25.32 cm), fruit width (6.24 cm) and number of seeds per fruit (61.66) followed by TIBA @ 100 ppm, NAA @ 50 and 75 ppm, TIBA @ 200 and 300 ppm and all the treatments were superior over all fruits retained per plant sprayed with distilled water (16.13 cm, 4.45 cm and 48.90). While fruit yield per plant and per hectare (135.86 g, 7882 Kg) and seed yield per plant (35.54 g) per hectare (1931 Kg) were highest with 12 fruits retained plants sprayed with NAA @ 25 ppm followed by TIBA @ 100 ppm, NAA @ 50 and 75 ppm, TIBA @ 200 and 300 ppm and all the treatments were superior over all fruits retained per plant sprayed with distilled water. Among interactions 8 fruits retained plants sprayed with NAA @ 25 ppm recorded highest (29.80 cm, 19.16 cm) shoot, root lengths, seedling dry weight (24.0 mg), vigour index type-I & II (4833 and 2369), field emergence (93%), accelerated ageing response (89%), seed density (0.93 g/cc) and less electrical conductivity (251 dSm−1). While lowest parameters were recorded with all fruits retained plants sprayed with distilled water.
