Abstract

The nutritional status of subjects suffering from chronic disorders was assessed on the basis of anthropometry. The results revealed that the mean height, weight, mid upper arm circumference (MUAC), Skin fold thickness (SFT), waist circumference (WC) and head circumference (HC) were significantly lower than the Indian standards. The body mass index (BMI) showed 60.0 percent of obesity among the study sample suffering from chronic disorders, on the basis of Broka’s index (BI) classification showed that majority of male subjects (56.4%) belongs to normal category. About 98.7 and 80.9 percent of male and female subjects belong to obese as per waist by hip ratio classification. On the basis of LBMI majority of subjects 88.9% had chronic energy deficiency. Statistical results indicated that MUAC, BMI, LBMI and W/H ratio were found non-significant; whereas other anthropometric measurements were found to be statistically significant at 5% level.
