Abstract

Nutraceutical is a product prepared from foods, but sold in the form of pills or powder (potions) or in other medicinal forms, not usually associated with foods. These can be grouped into nutrients, herbals and dietary supplements. Most of the nutraceuticals exhibit multiple therapeutic benefits and they lack considerable evidence for the benefits as well as unwanted effects. The aim of this review is to discuss the definition, significant role and problems plaguing the nutraceutical industry.
