Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to assess the effect of different mulching materials on different morphological characters of gladiolus cv. Pusa Suhagin. The treatments consisted of coloured plastic mulches (black, bluish green, blue, pink and gray), white transparent and straw mulches with one treatment without mulch as a control. The experiment was laid out as a randomized complete block design and replicated three times per treatment. Gladiolus plants mulched with black polyethylene sheet established significantly superior plant and yield parameters followed by rice straw mulches than those plants mulched with coloured polyethylene sheet as well as those planted on white transparent mulches. Plants in the control plots had the least performance for all parameters measured during the experiment.
