Abstract

The present investigation was carried out in the Division of Ornamental Crops, Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Hessarghatta, Bangalore during 2010–11. Petunia is one of the important summer and spring bedding plant because of their diversity of brilliant colours and growth habits. The present study revealed that all the inbred lines varied in their flower colour, anther and pollen colour, number of anthers, receptivity of stigma in relation to anthesis, anther dehiscence, pollen viability and seed setting ability. Number of anthers varied between five and seven. Percentage of pollen viability in twenty five inbred lines varied from 40.66 to 97.77 percent.
