Recently there has been an upsurge of interest in the therapeutic potential of medicinal plants as antioxidants. Antioxidants plays vital role in prevention and treatment of diseases, and maintenance of human health by in reducing free radical-induced tissue injury. The present study was conducted to investigate the antioxidant potential of Xanthium strumarium. The study phytochemical diversity of X. strumarium, due to presence alkaloids, Anthocyanins, Anthocyanidins Anthracene Derivative, Anthraquinones cardiac glycosides Coumarins, Diterpenoids, Phenolic Acids and polyphenols, Saponines and Sapogenins, steroids, Sequiterpene Lactones, Triterpenoids and flavonoids. Antioxidant activity of the plant extracts was also assessed by estimation of totat phenolic content, Bound phenol content Orthodihydroxy phenol content tannic acid content, flavonols quinins vitamins A, B and C, catalase cotent, Peroxidise content and Polyphenol oxidase. With all results it concluded that X. strumarium possess high antioxidant activity and can used for the isolation of antioxidant compounds.
