Abstract

The present studies were carried out in the screen house of Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar to ascertain the effect of nitrogen and bio-fertilizer on flowering of carnation cv. Red Corso. Five levels of nitrogen (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 ppm) and five different strains of Azotobacter (0, HT-54, Mac-27, Mac-68 and MSX-9) and their combination were applied. The results showed that number of flower buds per plant, Number of flowers per plant, flower size, flower weight, Stalk Length and flower duration increased significantly upto 150 ppm of nitrogen. Mac-68 strain of Azotobacter gave best results in terms of flower yield per plant. Mac-68 along with 150 ppm of nitrogen gave best results for maximum of flower buds per plant (7.43), maximum numbers of flower per plant (4.75), maximum flower size (5.30), maximum flower weight (6.36), maximum stalk length (33.60 cm) and maximum flower duration (32.13 days).
