Abstract

An experiment was carried out by crossing and open pollination of twenty number of gladiolus genotypes to select superior genotypes of better seed setting capacity for utilization in further breeding programme. The results revealed that five maternal parents viz. ACC-04, ACC-15, ACC-11, ACC-13 and ACC-14 produced a high percentage of capsule set to capsule harvest and number of harvestable seed per capsule from cross and open pollination. Conversely, the genotype, ACC-05, ACC-16 and ACC-17 were sterile, while ACC-10 and ACC-18 showed varying percentage of pod set after pollination which were shrinkled thereafter and died.
