A field experiment was conducted at Ranchi during the winter season of 1997–98 and 1998–99, to assess the nutrient economy and herbage productivity in 1:1 ratio of oat (Avena sativa L.) + berseem (Trifolium alexandrinum L.) intercropping system. Oat fertilized with 75% recommended dose of NPK + berseem at 100% NPK produced 41.2% and 58.6% more green herbage over sole stand (100% NPK) of oat and berseem respectively. The same also accounted for the highest net return (Rs 21,242/ha), net return/rupee investment (Rs 3.19/Re) along with almost similar monetary advantage when the both component species were grown at 100% NPK. The same treatment also gave better land-equivalent ratio (LER1.69).
