Effect of irrigation and nitrogen on Indian mustard (Brassica juncea) varieties in Vidharbha region

Abstract

An experiment was conducted during the winter season of 1994–95 and 1995–96 to study the response of Indian mustard [Brassica juncea (L.) Zernj. & Cosson] to irrigation and nitrogen levels. ‘Pusa Bold’ recorded 15.6 and 14.5% higher seed and oil yields than ‘Varuna’. Irrigation scheduling at an 0.8 IW:CPE ratio significantly increased the seed and oil yields ever 0.4 and 0.6 IW: CPE. Response to nitrogen was positive up to 120 kg/ha. The yield attributes, siliquae/plant, seeds/siliqua and 1,000-seed weight, were enhanced by increasing irrigation and nitrogen levels.
