A field experiment was carried out during 1997–98 and 1998–99 to study the effect of nutrient management on crop productivity and soil fertility in clusterbean [Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taubert]-wheat (Triticum aestivum L. emend. Fiori & Paol.) cropping systems. The highest clusterbean seed yield (608 kg/ha) was obtained under FYM 2.50 tonnes/ha + N10P25 (10 kg N and 25 kg P2O5/ha). Grain yield of succeeding wheat crop increased by 292 and 427 kg/ha with the residue of FYM 5 tonnes/ha than the residue of N20P50 kg/ha and control respectively. Application of FYM 5 tonnes/ha to the preceding crop of clusterbean increased wheat-grain-equivalent yield by 20% over the control. The highest benefit: cost ratio (3.63) and net returns over the control (Rs 5,040) were also accrued with the application of FYM 5 tonnes/ha in clusterbean-wheat cropping systems.
