A field experiment carried out during the winter (rabi) seasons of 1996–97 and 1997–98 at Kumarganj, Faizabad, revealed that there was significant increase in all growth and yield attributes up to 60 kg N/ha. Similar was the trend with grain and stover yields. Yields obtained at 60 kg N (i.e. 13.67 q/ha of seed and 50.26 q/ha of stover) and 75 kg N/ha (i.e. 14.00 q/ha of seed and 50.63 q/ha of stover) were at par with each other. Similar was the trend for economics except in case of net return/rupee of investment where 45 kg and 60 kg N/ha were at par with each other. Among the varieties of yellow sarson, ‘NDYS 921’ registered higher values of growth and yield attributes as well as yields but the values were at par with those of ‘Bio-YS V. Regarding economics, highest values were obtained with ‘NDYS 921’ and lowest with ‘Binoy’.
