A field experiment was conducted with soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.]-wheat (Triticum aestivum L. emend. Fiori. & Paol.) cropping system for 3 consecutive years during 1999–2000 to 2001–2002 in clay-loam soils of Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, with the objective to maximize the productivity and profitability of system. Application of 125% recommended dose of fertilizers to both crops significantly increased the grain yields of crop components and it was remunerative also without deterioration of soil properties. Application of 10 tonnes FYM/ha to soybean along with different fertilizer doses increased the grain yields of both crops, besides build-up in organic carbon and K contents in soil. Sowing of 125% recommended seed rate of wheat also helped to incease the productivity, net monetary returns and benefit: cost ratio of entire soybean-wheat system.
