A field experiment was conducted during the rainy (kharif) season of 2011 at New Delhi, to investigate the influence of methods of rice (Oryza sativa L.) planting and cyanobacterial inoculants on nutrient uptake and soil chemical properties. Conventional and system of rice intensification (SRI) methods of planting showed statistically at par uptake of N, Fe, Zn, Mn and Cu in grain and straw. Cyanobacterial inoculants + plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) + two-third N through urea recorded the highest concentration and uptake of N, Fe, Zn, Mn and Cu in grain and straw which was on par with recommended dose of N (RDN), i.e. 120 kg/ha. Status of available nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and iron in soil at harvest was similar in both the methods of rice planting. One-third RDN through compost + two-third RDN through urea recorded the highest available nitrogen content in soil at harvest.
