A field experiment was conducted during the summer season of 2016 and 2017 at Chatha, Jammu and Kashmir, to study the effect of differential substitution of nutrients through organics on growth, yield and economics of greengram [Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek]. Growth parameters (plant height and dry-matter accumulation at the time of harvesting); seeds/pod and seed yield of greengram were significantly highest in 100% recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF); however, these treatments were statistically at par with treatments wherein differential substitution of nutrients was done with organic sources, viz. 75% NPK + 25% N through vermicompost and farmyard manure (FYM) (1: 1), 25% yearly replacement of RDF through vermicompost and FYM (1: 1) on N basis, 75% NPK + 25% N through vermicompost, 25% yearly replacement of RDF through vermicompost on N basis, 75% NPK + 25% N through FYM and 25% yearly replacement of RDF through FYM with per cent increase during both the year of experimentation. The highest increase (16.85%) in seed yield of greengram during summer 2017 over summer 2016 was recorded in treatment 100% N through FYM, whereas the lowest increase in seed yield of greengram was recorded with treatment 100% recommended dose of fertilizer through in organics. Likewise, the maximum net returns (33.69 × 103/ha and 41.94 × 103/ha) were realized with 100% (RDF) followed by treatment 25% NPK + 75% N through vermicompost and FYM (1: 1) with net returns (32.44 × 103/ha and 41.22 × 103/ha), whereas the minimum net returns (12.71×103/ha and 20.60 × 103/ha) were recorded with treatment 25% NPK +75% N through vermicompost during both summer season of 2016 and 2017 respectively.
