Computing of energy in citrus gardens in jahrom county of fars province, Iran

Abstract

Need to energy for each action is necessary especially in agriculture. Food production needs high energy in agricultural ecosystems. This energy appears in form of inputs in agriculture that includes ecological and agricultural energy. In this research from indirect mechanization, direct mechanization and fertilizers, herbicides and seeds used for making energy quantities. Also input and output energy, net added energy and energy efficiency is computed. This project implemented in Jahrom that has been located on south of Fars province in Iran with area about 6020 km2. In these research sectional survey methods is used for data gathering that includes questionnaire, document gathering, plans and figures. Random cluster sampling is used to sampling. The result of research indicates that generally, input energy of Jahrom region gardens was 20931.64 mega joule/hectare that 45.1% of input energy is biologic (human energy and organic fertilizer energy) energy, 0.2% farm machines energy, %13.2 irrigation energy and 41.5% chemical energy including poisons and chemical fertilizer energy and Net added of energy is about 60072.83 mega joule/Hectare and energy efficiency is 3.87 in this region. Finally, it has been carried out the comparison of used energy for citrus production between Mohammad Abad region from Jahrom county and USA country.
